Head Keeper – Dunmaglass Estate, Inverness, Highland
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced, ambitious and forward-thinking Head Keeper to lead the sporting operation at Dunmaglass Estate, a 13,000-acre Highland estate situated to the south-west of Loch Ness.
The Estate is diverse and well-resourced and has an excellent sporting reputation across grouse, low-ground shooting and deer stalking. The successful candidate will take responsibility for the professional delivery and development of the sporting enterprise, with a particular focus on improving grouse and other wild bird populations through habitat management, legal predator control, sustainable grazing and careful monitoring.
The role
The Head Keeper will lead the sporting team and deliver modern game, wildlife, deer and habitat management across the Estate. The role requires strong practical ability, effective staff leadership, financial discipline, accurate record keeping and clear communication with the family, guests, Estate Manager, Managing Agent, contractors, public bodies and the local community.
Key responsibilities will include grouse moor and low-ground shoot management, deer management, predator control, habitat improvement and the professional planning and delivery of family and let sporting days. The Head Keeper will work closely with the Estate’s wider team, as well as Managing Agent and contractors.
The candidate
Applicants should be experienced keepers with a demonstrable track record in modern grouse moor, low-ground shoot and deer management.
Strong practical and organisational skills, knowledge of relevant legal and compliance requirements, good financial discipline and the ability to lead and develop a team are essential. The successful candidate will lead by example, set high standards and act as a positive ambassador for the Estate locally.
