Gamekeeper/estate worker role at family estate in South Cumbria

Finsthwaite has been in our family for many generations and we have developed an excellent high bird family shoot for ourselves and our friends. The estate consists of just under 1,000 acres of woodland and in-hand farming. Our previous keeper has retired so we are seeking a replacement. Alongside gamekeeping, the successful applicant will also be responsible for the operation of our woodchip system and all timber operations as well as the general running of the non farming side of the estate including managing contractors and presenting a well managed and well cared for estate. The owners live on site but are away quite often due to work commitments and travelling. They have three children in their early twenties.

There are 7 drives, all hand fed as there is too much cover to retain hopper fed birds. The applicant will need to demonstrate experience of keeping pheasants and vermin control and hold valid shotgun and rifle certificates. Further skills are required for the timber operations including use of chain saws, tractors, winches etc. Some knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and of dry-stone walling would also be useful.

The role comes with an attractive three bedroom cottage with garden and orchard. Salary on application.
