Farm Manager - Rare Breeds , Dorset
This is a rare and exciting opportunity for an above average Farm Manager who is truly dedicated to rare breeds, biodiversity and looking after the landscape. This is a job for a special kind of farmer who wants to withdraw from intensive commercial farming practices and who understands and enjoys implementing extensive, regenerative farming methods. Ideally, you are a knowledgeable countryman with a genuine respect for biodiversity and a sound understanding of sensitive grassland and woodland management. Rare breeds include White Park cattle, Portland sheep, Iron Age pigs and free range, Indian Game chickens.
An interest in ancient woodland restoration and experience in forestry management would be relevant to the start-up and management of a new business.
Ideally you will have a passion for livestock and be motivated by being a part of an exciting commercial enterprise, incentivised by a share of the profits. A great opportunity for a true country person, to enjoy the lifestyle of living and working on an old fashioned, secluded farm. The natural beauty of this farm, and its maintenance to a very high standard, is a key factor. A tidy farm is of paramount importance.
The small family shoot is also an important element, so you would work closely with our gamekeeper in deer management and in optimising the success of our shoot.
The very attractive Farm Manager’s house has recently been built. There are three double bedrooms.
The overall package for the successful candidate is worth £50,000 +
