Are you passionate about wildlife conservation and sustainability? The BASC Wildlife Fund Charity is seeking dedicated individuals to join the board of trustees and play a vital role in steering the future of the charity.

The BASC Wildlife Fund (BWF) is the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC) brand which promotes and supports sustainable shooting. In doing so, BASC is recognised as a leading force behind the delivery of practical conservation.

The BASC Wildlife Fund Charity (BWFC), registered charity number 1013816, was founded by BASC in 1992. The BWFC is independent to BASC. The BWFC will consider and determine, provide funding, and administer the BASC Wildlife Fund grant applications. Since its establishment the BWFC has awarded £636,037, with a significant portion, 73% (£466,621), awarded since 2020.

Role overview: As a trustee, you will collectively guide the overall management, governance, and strategic direction of the BASC Wildlife Fund Charity. Your contributions will directly impact our mission to establish, support, and maintain special protection areas, promote wildlife conservation, and advance research for the public benefit.

Key responsibilities:

  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and pursue organisational objectives.
  • Safeguard financial stability.
  • Act as guardians of the charity's assets.
  • Contribute actively to strategic direction.

Person specification: We are seeking individuals with a strong empathy for our charitable objectives, coupled with experience in wildlife conservation. Sound judgement, commitment to equality and diversity, and proven board-level experience are essential.

Knowledge, skills, and understanding:

  • Commitment and dedication.
  • Willingness to make unpopular recommendations.
  • Good, independent judgement.
  • Understanding of legal duties and responsibilities.
  • Effective team collaboration skills.

Minimum time commitment:

  • Attend two annual meetings.
  • Regular video conference catchups.
  • Attend site meetings (usually once a year).
  • Review submitted applications and trust policies.

Remuneration: The role is voluntary, without financial remuneration. Reasonable expenses may be claimed with receipts.

Location: Rossett, Wrexham, and virtual participation.
