Job description;

West Coast Estate This is a unique opportunity for an estate worker and housekeeper to join an established 14,000-acre crofting estate on a secluded peninsula on the west coast of Scotland. The roles detailed are ideally suited for a couple; however single applications may be considered. We would be looking for the successful applicant to being March/ April 2021. The estate comprises of various self-catering holiday cottages, the client’s principle property, workshops and staff accommodation. The self-catering accommodation is let out during the summer season, however they require ongoing maintenance year round. The secluded nature of the estate means that it is only accessible by boat or walking. This is approximately a 40-minute boat trip from Mallaig. Employees are offered The White house within the terms of employment, which is located in Tarbet Bay. This is a three-bedroom farmhouse inclusive of heating, Wi-Fi and council tax.

Estate Employee

We are looking for a diligent and enthusiastic estate worker to help with various roles around the estate. The applicant must be friendly and hard working as they will be working within a small team in a rural and remote location. The successful candidate will be working alongside the Estate Manager and will undertake jobs including labouring, building projects, property maintenance, farm work, garden and ground maintenance around the estate. Experience  Building and construction, Property maintenance, Garden & ground maintenance, Boat skills (not essential as onsite training will be provided), Chainsaw, Farm Work

Housekeeper

We are looking for an enthusiastic and diligent housekeeper to help manage a range of properties including 4 holiday cottages, church and bothy and the main estate house. The applicant must be friendly and hard working as they will be working closely within a small team. As well as managing the properties, the applicant must be able to enhance the desired ambience of the estate. The applicant must be willing to work alone, however assistance will be provided where needed.

The successful applicant with be required to carry out a range of roles during employment in addition to housekeeping duties, including providing administrative support, updating social media pages, assisting with marketing, light farm and garden work. Onsite training will be provided, such as quad biking, boat handling and first aid training. Opportunities to gain extra qualifications can be sought after. Experience  Previous housekeeping experience, preferable holiday cottages/ lodges/ chalets with customer contact and care, Boat Experience (not essential as onsite training will be provided)

Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels - Developing Community Action (SSRS-DCA) is a project to secure the long-term future of red squirrels in Scotland by building capacity among communities of volunteers and land managers to take on some of the essential protection measures required to protect the red squirrels in key areas.

As part of this programme we are now recruiting a grey squirrel officer to contribute to the project’s co-ordinated landscape-scale approach carrying out grey squirrel control to protect key populations of red squirrels in South East Scotland. We are looking for a self-starter with a love of outdoor working who is experienced in grey squirrel control work and has the ability to interact with land managers and train volunteers.

The successful candidate will possess a SVQ/NVQ level 2 or equivalent qualification in Game and Wildlife Management or related discipline or relevant experience of game keeping, invasive/non-native mammal control or pest control, along with good understanding of conservation principles, practices and legislation. You should have the ability to keep accurate records in Excel.

Relevant previous experience is desirable, together with experience of working with foresters, landowners and members of the public. A knowledge of forest and native tree species and familiarity with the local area to be covered are advantageous.

Some out of normal hours working will be required and you must possess a full clean driving licence.

The Hatfield Estate covers approximately 8,000 acres close to Hatfield in Hertfordshire, and supports two private in-hand shoots.  The Estate aims to be a vibrant, forward-looking business which balances its traditional past with the requirements of the future.  The estate’s gamekeepers are expert in predator control, conservation, deer management and producing quality game shooting.

Summary of the Role

We wish to recruit an underkeeper with the ambition to progress and, in time, take responsibility for his or her own beat.  The role will primarily be based at Hatfield Park but there will be the opportunity to contribute to the success of the Estate’s other shoot.  Work will be varied and experience with pheasants, partridges and deer will be an advantage.  An interest in wildlife and conservation is also important.

An estate property with two bedrooms and kennels is available as part of the renumeration package.

Essential Skills and Attributes

The successful applicant will have enthusiasm for gamekeeping, with a desire to make a wider contribution to the estate’s wildlife.  We are looking for someone keen to progress their career, and so applicants should have at least 3 years of proven experience as well a full driving licence, their own dogs, a SGC and a FAC.  They should be a good communicator, with the ambition to see a job done well, whether working in a team or independently.

The flora and fauna must be managed sustainably and 15 stags/30 hinds are shot annually.
