We are looking for someone with a love of outdoor working who is a self-starter preferably already experienced in grey squirrel control work. May suit a self-employed contractor.   There will be opportunities for the successful holder of the temporary post to carry out similar 4-5-month seasonal posts in subsequent years.    The successful candidate will possess a SVQ/NVQ level 2 or equivalent qualification in Game and Wildlife Management or related discipline or relevant experience of game keeping, invasive/non-native mammal control or pest control, along with good understanding of conservation principles, practices and legislation. You should have the ability to keep accurate records in Excel. Relevant previous experience is desirable, together with experience of working with foresters, landowners and members of the public. The right applicant will be trained to maintain these birds. They must also be able to kill and pluck pigeons and if suitably qualified dress the birds ready for dispatch to some of the top restaurants in the country. The farm also needs general upkeep, maintenance and assistance in the vegetable garden as well. The job will test the right applicant and grow their experience of managing wildlife and maintaining a farm with very traditional values with modern twists. This will be an interesting post with opportunities to develop innovative approaches to both our monitoring and our trapping methods. The Monitoring and Control Officer will report to the locally based Conservation Officer.   Applicants should hold a Degree or vocational qualification in ecology/countryside management or related discipline. You will demonstrate experience in wildlife survey and monitoring, management of invasive non-native species and an understanding of scientific method. A commitment to wildlife conservation and the ability to keep accurate records are essential.   Experience of effective working with the public, private landowners, conservation agencies and volunteer groups along with good interpersonal skills are required, and a familiarity with Aberdeen is desirable.   Current driving licence essential.

The post will contribute to the project’s co-ordinated landscape-scale approach to reduce grey squirrel numbers in the target area of Comrie to Methven preventing recolonisation of areas to the north of the Highland Line.   The successful candidates will possess a SVQ/NVQ level 2 or equivalent qualification in Game and Wildlife Management or related discipline or relevant experience of game keeping, invasive/non-native mammal control or pest control, along with good understanding of conservation principles, practices and legislation. You should have the ability to keep accurate records in Excel. Relevant previous experience is essential, together with experience of working with foresters, landowners and members of the public.  Knowledge of forest and native tree species and familiarity with the local area to be covered are advantageous.
