Due to our current keeper moving on and  taking up a Head keepers position an opportunity  for a Beat/Assistant  Keeper has become available  on a  well established pheasant shoot in North Wales.   This is a demanding role which requires a hard working, honest and reliable individual with a passion for the job, the desire to get on and keeper their beat (and also assist with the shoot as a whole) and become proud of it  and strive to exceed all expectations. Working in a neat and tidy manner, with attention to detail in all that they do. You must be prepared to integrate into a Welsh speaking farming community.   We are looking for a keeper with the ability to work off their own motivation but also under the direction of the shoot proprietor and Head keeper. Over the last few seasons the shoot has been through a transition period with new drives being created and old drives being rethought.   We are happy to take applications from someone looking for a step up in their career or from more experience keepers that would be happy to work under a head keeper.   Hand feeding experience preferred along with the understanding that continued  dogging in between feeds is absolutely essential for the success of the beat and the shoot as a whole.   Full driving license is essential along with SGC. No clock watcher please as we are all aware there are long hour involved when required.   Two bedroom cottage and kennels available.

 Unique Estate Manager / Stalker position - West Coast of Scotland.   Camusrory, one of the most remote Estates on the West Coast of Scotland, accessible only by boat from Mallaig, is looking for an Estate Manager/Stalker.   The position would suit a single person or a couple, provided that the “other half” is willing to work as a seasonally employed housekeeper and occasional cook for the Lodge. Successful applicants will be able to fulfil a variety of roles with requirements being estate and property maintenance and management, people management, stalking and hill management and boat management.   The Estate is off grid and has a hydro, generators and inverters, it has a significant amount of equipment including boats, digger, telehandler and machinery and has a variety of properties all of which need to be maintained. The applicant should have excellent mechanical skills. There are 2-3 other employees which the applicant will be expected to organise and keep safe. The flora and fauna must be managed sustainably and 15 stags/30 hinds are shot annually. Several hundred hours are spent annually on boats in all-weathers and applicants must be competent or willing to learn.   Personal attributes required: reliable, resilient, highly competent, mechanical, enthusiastic, loves the hill, knows deer, happy in remote areas, sense of humour, good with guests and family alike.   Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 for a single person, plus, if a couple, an additional £8,000 - £10,000 for the seasonal housekeeping role.  Accommodation included.  Must have UK right-to-work.

Gardener and Groundsperson The Dallam Tower Estate is seeking a gardener and groundsperson to become part of its estate maintenance team.  Based around Milnthorpe in Cumbria this position requires experience in grounds maintenance, spraying, strimming, mowing, and general gardening.  The Estate is looking to recruit someone with very high standards who takes pride in their work and has the ability to work unsupervised or as part of a small team. Ideally the applicant will have experience with propagation and have tickets for spraying (PA1 and PA6) and be capable of basic garden machinery maintenance. Driving licence required and chainsaw tickets would be beneficial.

Grey Squirrel Officer – Tayside, (seasonal/fixed term position)     Seasonal post mid January – end July 2020 Location: Home based within east Angus (Forfar–Montrose area) £17,575 p.a.   Saving Scotland’s Red Squirrels - Developing Community Action (SSRS-DCA) is a project to secure the long-term future of red squirrels in Scotland by building capacity among communities of volunteers and land managers to take on some of the essential protection measures required to protect the red squirrels in key areas. As part of this programme we are looking for a self-starter with a love of outdoor working with experience of grey squirrel control work and enjoys interacting with the public, to fill a new Grey Squirrel Officer post.  The post will contribute to the project’s co-ordinated landscape-scale red squirrel protection networks by to reducing grey squirrel numbers in the key Forfar to Montrose area to prevent them from colonising southern Aberdeenshire.   The successful candidates will possess a SVQ/NVQ level 2 or equivalent qualification in Game and Wildlife Management or related discipline or relevant experience of game keeping, invasive/non-native mammal control or pest control, along with an understanding of conservation principles, practices and legislation. You should have the ability to keep accurate records in Excel. Relevant previous experience is essential, together with experience of working with foresters, keepers, landowners and members of the public.  Commitment to environmental causes and familiarity with the local area to be covered are advantageous. Some out of normal hours working will be required and you must possess a full clean driving licence.
